Nemours Awarded Top Children’s Hospital

Nemours Awarded Top Children’s Hospital Distinction by the Leapfrog Group

Only Nine Children’s Hospitals in the Nation Earned the Premier Recognition for Safety and Quality

ORLANDO, Fla. – For the second time in its four years of operation, Nemours Children’s Hospital was named a Top Children’s Hospital by the Leapfrog Group.  This elite distinction is awarded to hospitals nationwide that meet the toughest standards for safety and quality. Only nine children’s hospitals in the entire country received the honor in 2016.

“This award reflects the commitment of each and every Nemours Associate to deliver the safest possible care to every single patient,” said Dana Nicholson Bledsoe, president of Nemours Children’s Hospital. “The Top Children’s Hospital award from the Leapfrog Group is a really gratifying recognition of their hard work.”

The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization focused on the quality and safety of American health care. Their Leapfrog Hospital Survey collects and reports hospital performance. The organization has found that Top Hospitals have better systems in place to prevent medication errors and lower readmission rates.

“Being acknowledged as a Top Hospital is an incredible feat achieved by less than three percent of hospitals nationwide,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “With this honor, Nemours Children’s Hospital has established its commitment to safer and higher quality care.Providing this level of care to patients in Central Florida requires motivation and drive from every team member. I congratulate the board, staff and clinicians, whose efforts made this honor possible.”

The award will be presented to Nemours leaders at the Leapfrog Group’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C. on December 6th.  The honor is not given to a set number of hospitals, but rather to all urban, rural, and children’s hospitals that meet the high standards defined in each year’s Top Hospital Methodology.

Nemours Children’s Hospital was one of 115 Top Hospitals recognized nationally. The list includes:

The selection is based on the results of The Leapfrog Group’s annual hospital survey, which measures hospitals’ performance on patient safety and quality, focusing on three critical areas of hospital care: how patients fare, resource use and management structures established to prevent errors. Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including rates for high-risk procedures and a hospital’s ability to prevent medication errors.
