Nemours Children’s Health Announces $300 Million Expansion to Transform Pediatric Care in Central Florida

Nemours Children’s Health is set to significantly expand its presence in Central Florida with an ambitious $300 million enhancement of its hospital campus in Lake Nona. This bold initiative underscores Nemours’ commitment to advancing pediatric healthcare and meeting the needs of the growing community.

The Jacksonville-based health system plans to construct three new buildings as part of the 130-bed Nemours Children’s Hospital, Florida campus expansion. The multi-phase project will unfold over the next four years, culminating in substantial enhancements to patient care and operational capabilities.

Key Components of the Expansion:

Dr. R. Lawrence Moss, president and CEO of Nemours Children’s Health, emphasized the strategic importance of this expansion. “This expansion is a critical step in achieving our vision of bringing world-class children’s care to Florida,” he stated in a press release. “Our journey to become a nationally ranked children’s hospital here will give us the capacity to support even more families regionally, nationally, and internationally.”

Nemours Children’s Health operates over 50 locations across Florida and serves a pediatric population exceeding 300,000 children and teens. The health system anticipates nearly 5% growth in Central Florida’s pediatric population, currently estimated at 1 million, over the next five years.

The Orlando hospital first opened in 2012, situated on nearly 60 acres of land. As of 2023, Nemours employed over 2,824 full-time associates in Central Florida. This expansion marks a pivotal chapter in Nemours’ history, aligning with its mission to provide exceptional pediatric care to a growing and dynamic region.
