UCF Announces Future Plans to Include New Departments in Lake Nona

Morphed into one of the nation’s largest universities, UCF continues to expand its campuses, recently announcing plans to create a hub for the health sciences department here in Lake Nona.

The University made a pitch to the Orange County Commission to take over the Lake Nona facility, currently occupied by soon-to-depart Sanford Burnham research institute. With its overall plan to make Lake Nona its hub for health sciences, winning this bid would give home to a new cancer research and treatment center.

According to university officials, the plans would include moving nursing, social work, physical therapy and other health-related departments to Lake Nona, already home to university’s medical school.

The move aims to position the university to meet the region’s 21st-century higher education needs.  It also will create more space on UCF’s main campus where the addition of 200 new faculty members in recent years has left some departments squeezed for space.

UCF is also anchoring a downtown Orlando location that is set to open next year.
