Happy New Year, Central Florida! As the calendar flips to a new year, the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) is still hard at work on the SR 417 capacity improvements project. If you’re wondering what’s going on with all the construction on that 21-mile stretch of road, here’s the scoop: CFX is adding a travel lane in each direction between International Drive and SR 528 and wider median shoulders to accommodate extra traffic during emergencies.

The contractors are making significant progress on the inside widening between Boggy Creek Road and SR 528, and most of the bridge work at Narcoossee Road, Moss Park Road, and Dowden Road is complete.

You may have noticed the noise walls going up along the right of way – don’t worry; the rest will be constructed later in the project. This whole thing should wrap up in spring 2024, so hang in there a little longer! CFX is committed to improving traffic flow and safety on this busy expressway for the 3.3 million residents and 75 million visitors in Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties.
