CEO and Founder Bio:
Nicolas Otero is the Founder of the Junior Golf Preparatory Academy (JGPA). He works with a team of talented coaches to consistently deliver meaningful experiences to children through golf. JGPA’s methodology centers around understanding how kids learn and pairing them with coaches who lead with fun and focus on the long term.
Nicolas Otero has an M.B.A. from the Crummer Graduate School of Business and extensive experience in the world of junior coaching. He holds a U.S. Kids Golf Certification, a Positive Coaching Alliance Certification, and a certificate in Child Psychology from Yale. Nicolas is currently the official junior coaching consultant for the Colombian Golf Federation. He visits Colombia several times a year to certify coaches in the JGPA methodology, audit classes to ensure junior engagement, and consult with the country’s 50+ country clubs on how to build successful junior programs.
After five years as a junior golf program director, Nicolas noticed a need for great golf programming for young children. Traditional, high-performance-based programs were not connecting with junior golfers, and burnout was at an all-time high. This led to the creation of the first “Learn 2 Play Program”- a program built around utilizing game-based learning to teach the fundamentals of golf.
Nicolas launched the first JGPA location at North Shore Golf Club in May 2022 and has rapidly expanded the academy to over 350 weekly junior participants. It is one of the largest junior programs for kids 2-8 years old in the state of Florida. JGPA expanded in August 2022 to a second location at Stoneybrook East Golf Club and a third location at Lake Nona Golf Country Club. JGPA has also launched a “First Swing” program – a unique program for early learners that runs out of local schools and daycares – and now has four locations where 2 and 3-year-old students are trying golf for the first time every day.
The success of these programs has led Nicolas and his team to certify over 200 coaches in the JGPA methodology and become the official junior program in Colombia with the Colombian Golf Federation.
